International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia

IDAHTB

International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia is dedicated to raising awareness about the discrimination and violence faced by the LGBTQ+ community due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.

It is observed annually on May 17th because, on this day in 1990, the World Health Organization (WHO) decided to no longer classify homosexuality as a mental disorder. It was a significant step towards acceptance and understanding.

The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia day was created in 2004, with the primary aim to draw attention to the violence and discrimination experienced by LGBTQ+ people internationally. Around the world, various events are held, including rallies, educational sessions, and community gatherings.

Even though there's been progress, many LGBTQ+ people globally still face significant challenges, including discrimination, violence, and lack of legal protections. This day serves as a reminder and a call to action to stand against such injustices.
