Labor Day

Labor Day and is a statutory holiday in both the United States and Canada.

Both countries’ labor histories followed similar paths as worker’s movements were growing in popularity in the late 19th century. In 1882, American labor leader Peter J. Mcguire led labor celebrations in both Toronto and New York City.

In 1894, USA and Canada recognized Labor Day as a national holiday in September. Due to the Haymarket Affair violence that occurred in 1886 in Chicago, most other countries in the world celebrate “Workers Day” in May.

While Labor Day originated in activism, today’s organized community activities like parades have made become a day of relaxation and leisure. Take this day to thank your employees for all their hard work.
