Women’s Equality Day

Women's Equality Day is a significant annual observance that commemorates the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution on August 26, 1920.

This momentous amendment granted women the right to vote, a pivotal step towards gender equality in the United States.

It's a day to celebrate the progress made in women's rights and to reflect on the ongoing work towards achieving gender parity in various aspects of society.

How to Observe Women’s Equality Day in the Workplace

  • Educate yourself: Discuss and educate yourself and your team on the inequalities that women have faced and keep facing to this day, including gender inequality in the workplace, unequal pay, sexual harassment, racism and discrepancy in promotions. How to Close the Gender Gap talks all about closing the gap at the workplace, starting from attracting candidates to job promotions.

  • It is also important to discuss the inequality mothers at work face and learn about the Motherhood Penalty.” This states that there is a wage penalty, promotion barriers, and workplaces are less likely to hire mothers, whereas men are more likely to be rewarded for being a father.

  • We encourage organizations to include International Women’s Day training in their annual company-wide events.

Hi everyone,

Today is Women Equality Day which is a day of awareness in the US to commemorate the suffrage of women and the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which gave women the right to vote.

Some statistics for you all from the Oxfam International and UN Women:

  • 1 in 3 women will face violence in their lifetime.

  • On average, women are paid 24% less than men for comparable work across various sectors.

  • There are153 countries that have laws that discriminate against women economically. There are even18 countries where husbands can legally prevent their wives from working.

  • More than two-thirds of the world’s illiterate population are women

These are just some of the inequalities women face. We encourage you to continue to push back against injustices against women and support the women around you.

We thank you for growing with us and we will keep educating and striving for equality for women in the workplace.

Thank you,
