Family Day is a civic holiday observed in Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Ontario, and Saskatchewan to recognize the value of family. Islander Day is a public holiday in Prince Edward Island. It is important to remember that there are so many different types of families than the traditional nuclear family, such as LGBTQ+ families, adoptive families, foster families, and divorced families, to name a few. The concept of a “chosen family” should also be considered as, for many queer folks, this is often the only family they know.
