Maha Shivratri is primarily a Hindu celebration held each year to honour Lord Shiva, the God of Destruction.
Maha Shivratri means “The Great Night of Shiva” and is a night of special spiritual significance. Shivratri is celebrated every month of the lunisolar calendar, according to the Hindu calendar.
However, once a year, in late winter, Maha Shivratri is celebrated to commemorate the approaching summer. It is celebrated through meditation, introspection, and fasting.
