Jewish Heritage Month is observed throughout the month of May in the United States and Canada.
This event began in 1980 with President Jimmy Carter establishing "Jewish American Heritage Week". By 2006, this celebration was extended to the whole month of May, thanks to a proclamation by President George W. Bush, making it "Jewish American Heritage Month".
Canada followed suit in 2018 and celebrates Jewish Heritage in May alongside the USA.
May was chosen because of its relevance to key events in Jewish American history, like the U.S. recognizing Israel. This month recognizes and celebrates the contributions and achievements of Jewish Americans in various fields such as arts, politics, science, and more.
