July DEI Observances
July is here and that means it’s summer and it’s a great time to enjoy with family and friends!
It’s also an important time for a variety of religious, cultural and spiritual celebrations to honor to acknowledge both at home and in the workplace.

July 1🍁 Canada Day celebrates the anniversary of the Canadian Federation established in 1867. Canada Day has more recently been critically discussed as commemorations downplay the role of Indigenous Peoples in Canada’s history. Some wear orange instead of red to show support for the Indigenous Peoples. It’s also a great time to check out our Free Land Acknowledgement Template!

July 4 🗽 Independence Day celebrates the anniversary of when the United States became an independent nation in 1776. For some Americans, July is a time to celebrate with BBQ’s and fireworks, but for others it has become a day of reflection, on what Independence means to some.

July 7 - August 4 Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar and fasting, charitable offerings, and peace are key themes during this month.
July 16 - 17 Ashura is an Islamic celebration on the 10th day of Muharram, the first of the Islamic Lunar calendar, which started on July 30. Ashura also marks the day that Allah parted the red sea for Moses.
July 18 Nelson Mandela Day is an annual commemoration of the iconic South African leader's birthday, dedicated to promoting peace, reconciliation, and social justice through acts of kindness and community service.
