List of DEI Observances in April 2025

  • April 1-30 Sikh Heritage Month commemorates the profound history of the Sikh community, highlighting their traditions, struggles, and contributions throughout the ages.

  • April 2 World Autism Awareness Day Designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007, this day aims to bring awareness of the unique hurdles faced by autistic individuals, resolve misinformation and myths, as well as celebrate the unique talents of those with autism. It further unites organizations around the world to aid in research, diagnoses, treatment and acceptance for those affected by autism.

  • April 7 World Health Day is an annual event that focuses on global health issues and promotes universal health care awareness.

  • April 12-20 Passover, also known as Pesach, occurs on the 15th day of Nisan and celebrates the Hebrews' liberation from slavery in Egypt. It is observed for 7 days in Israel and 8 days in the diaspora. This holiday is a celebration of freedom that is appreciated by the Jewish community and by people of other faiths.

  • April 13 Theravada New Year begins 3 days after the first full moon of April. In Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, India, Sri Lanka, and other countries where Theravada Buddhists are present, devotees spend this time reflecting on Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and death.

  • April 14 Aluth Avuruda & Puthandu Known as Aluth Avuruda in Sinhalese and Puthandu in Tamil this is the Sri Lankan New Year. It is the biggest celebration and festival in the island of Sri Lanka and it begins at the sighting of a new moon, when the sun moves from the house of Pieces to the house of Aries.

  • April 18 Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his sacrificial death, observed during Holy Week as part of the Christian liturgical calendar.

  • April 20 Easter Sunday is a Christian holiday that commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, three days after his crucifixion. Although Easter is a religious event of high significance in the Christian faith, many traditions linked with it trace back to pre-Christian, pagan periods.

  • April 20 - May 2 Ridván, also known as the Most Great Festival, commemorates the declaration of Baháʼu'lláh as the prophet founder of the Baháʼí faith. It is a 12-day celebration and people of the Baháʼí faith are encouraged not to work during specific days of this event.

  • April 22 Earth Day Since 1970, the 22nd of April has been designated as Earth day. This day aims to raise awareness and demonstrate support for environmental protection, with many events held around the world.
